Mangalee Ibn Shadwan
Mangalee Ibn Shadwan
Mangalee Ibn Shadwan was a Straight Egyptian Arabian stallion, foaled in 1997 in Germany. He was bred by Birkhof Stud, owned by the Dirnhofer family, whose breeding program focused for decades on the preservation and consolidation of classical Egyptian bloodlines. Registered as a grey stallion with a height of approximately 15.25hh, Mangalee represented the Saklawi Jedran Ibn Sudan strain of the celebrated Moniet el Nefous family.
Mangalee was sired by Classic Shadwan (1992–2009), a grey Straight Egyptian stallion who stood at stud in Germany and earned recognition both in the show ring and as a breeding sire.
Classic Shadwan was by Alidaar, a son of Shaikh Al Badi out of Bint Magidaa. Through Shaikh Al Badi, the pedigree traced directly to Morafic, one of the most influential Egyptian sires of the twentieth century and a dominant transmitter of type, balance, and charisma in both American and European breeding.
On the dam side, Classic Shadwan descended from Shadwan, reinforcing a concentration of established Egyptian state-stud blood. This combination of Morafic and Shadwan blood made Classic Shadwan a representative of consolidated, proven sire lines.
During his show career, Classic Shadwan earned significant titles, including championships at the Egyptian Classic Show in the Netherlands and high placements at international shows in Germany and Austria. As a sire, he produced numerous approved and awarded offspring, among them Mangalee Ibn Shadwan, who carried forward this structured Egyptian heritage.
Mangalee’s dam, Ken Bint Bint Mahiba (foaled 1985) was by Ansata Halim Shah, a son of Ansata Ibn Halima and a representative of the Ansata program’s interpretation of Egyptian type. Through this line, Mangalee’s pedigree incorporated further crosses to Nazeer blood, reinforcing the consolidation already present on the sire side.
Ken Bint Bint Mahiba was a daughter out of Kis Mahiba who was by Ibn Galal, another cornerstone of Egyptian breeding. Ibn Galal was chief sire at Babolna, the breeder of Kis Mahiba. Kis Mahiba (registered as 18 Ibn Galal at Babolna) was acquired by Dr. Nagel, together with her dam Mahiba (Alaa El Din x Mouna). At his stud, she produced 9 foals including Ken Bint Bint Mahiba.
As a young horse, Mangalee Ibn Shadwan demonstrated consistent performance in the European show. Among his achievements were Gold Ribbon awarded at the Stallion Licensing in Aachen and Class winner (3 years old colts) at the German Nationals at Neustadt/Dosse (2000). As a senior he appeared at the Emerald Egyptian Event in Belgium where he was awarded Champion Stallion in 2007. The same year, he became Senior Champion Stallion at the Arabica C-show in Frankfurt, Germany.
Mangalee Ibn Shadwan sired multiple registered offspring, particularly in Germany during the early 2000s. His daughter Muniefa should be named here in particular. She became Senior Female Champion at Kauber Platte in 2010. Besides Muniefa (x Jamilla III), several of his daughters entered breeding programs and continued the line within Straight Egyptian and Egyptian-oriented herds. First of all to name here is his daughter Rayhanah Bint Rebecca (x Bint Rebecca) who has founded her own family at Birkhof Stud and whose daughter DF Ranya (by DF Malik Jamil) is continuing the line at Birkhof Stud. Another daughter by Mangalee Ibn Shadwan is DF Shalima (x Ansata Shahlia) who can be found in UAE bred horses, mostly through her black son Khiel Al Bustan (by HED Kampala).
