Elstera 1913
Bred at Antoniny stud in Poland, Elstera was a grey daughter by Ibrahim, born in 1913.
Ibrahim desert-bred stallion reportedly foaled in Syria in 1899 and was acquired by Count Potocki in Odessa, then part of the Russian Empire. Over Turkey (Constantinople), Potocki sent him to his Antoniny stud in Poland.
Through Ibrahim, Elstera was a paternal half-sister to the famous Skworonek (x Jaskolka II).
Elstera's dam was Lezginka, a daughter by the desert imported stallion Obejan Szarak. Legzinka was the dam of further three registered foals. Her son Ganges I was the sire of Derby Winner Hardy and her daughter Kalina - full-sister to Elstera - was the dam of several influential horses like Dzwienna (dam of Piolun and Roszmaryn) or Floks (sire of the mare Elsissa).
According to the Polish studbook, Elstera herself produced ten registered foals. Among her sons was Morocz (by Mazepa II), who was the sire of Bajadera. Bajadera was the dam of Bandera by Rozmaryn, a Polish mare imported to the United States in 1963 where she became TopTen Park at the U.S. Nationals in 1965.
Another of Elstera's son was Flisak (by Bakszysz) who was Polish Derby winner in 1927. He was used as sire at Janow Podlaski between 1931 and 1940. Flisak's fate after WWII remains unknown, though he was likely lost during the war.
Elstera's most notable daughter was the grey mare Ikwa (by Koheilan I) born in 1927. Ikwa proved an exceptional racehorse, winning all six of her starts, including the Polish Derby. Before being confiscated by Soviet authorities during the 1939 occupation of Poland, Ikwa produced two foals, among them Obra, later granddam of Naborr. In Russia, Ikwa left no registered foals.
Elstera's last foal was a stallion by Koheilan I, born in 1934. Her whereabouts after 1934 or her exact date of death is unknown.
