Born in Zimbabwe, Tehama Ballalina would one day rise to global prominence, crowning her show carrer with winning Gold World Champion Senior Mare in 2017. But her story begins much earlier.
In 2001, breeder Linda Ferguson paired her Aladdinn granddaughter JJ Shai Majestic Queen with her leading stallion Tehama Na Sidaqa. The following year, this cross produced a delicate grey filly: Tehama Ballalina.
Her sire Tehama Na Sidaqa, was South African National Champion Stallion in 2003 . This dark-chestnut stallion was sired by Thee Cyclone, a Straight Egyptian stallion, a double-grandson by The Minstril. On the maternal side of Tehama Na Sidaqa stands Banghor Darica, a daughter by Niyashin El Shaklan. Niyashin El Shaklan was an important representative of El Shaklan in Africa. Bred by Om El Arab in Germany, Niyashin was named South African National Champion Stallion three times.
Through her dam, JJ Shai Majestic Queen, Tehama Ballalina carries an appealing blend of Polish and Spanish bloodlines. Her female line traces to the Spanish mare Tagata de Washoe, a daughter by Tabal, bred by the renowned Spanish breeder Don Miguel Osuna Escalera and later exported to the United States. Don Miguel was also the breeder of the legendary Estopa. Through Tabal, Tagata de Washoe was half-sister to Estopa.
Exported from Zimbabwe to the UK by Helen Cawley in 2004, Tehama Ballalina later joined the distinguished mare band of Al Zobair Stud in the United Arab Emirates. Her show career blossomed across Europe and the Middle East. By 2016, she had already secured multiple titles, including All Nation's Cup Reserve Champion Filly in 2005, Gold at Ajman, double UAE National Gold Championships, and numerous Silver and Bronze titles at Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai.
In 2016, she earned Gold Champion Senior Mare at the All Nations Cup in Aachen and Silver Senior Mare at the Paris World Championships. As mentioned in the beginning, she crowned her career in 2017 when she was named World Gold Champion Senior Mare in Paris, affirming her as one of the most accomplished senior mares of her era.
In addition to her show-ring triumphs, Tehama Ballalina proved herself a valuable broodmare at Al Zobair Stud, producing 10 foals—2 colts and 8 fillies, several by embryo transfer. Her daughters, including Belbelah Al Zobair (by SMA Magic One) and Dawoudiyah Al Zobair (by Kahil Al Shaqab), continue the legacy of that exotic mare.
